Wrestling Drill Book Review

Wrestling Drill Book

The book is organized into wrestling drills, games, and conditioning. A "drill finder" makes it easy to select drills for a specific technique being taught. Skill levels from peewee to college are provided as well as drills for folkstyle, freestyle, and greco-roman. Overall this book can provide many new approaches to prevent stale practice sessions. Not a book for an average wrestler, this is a coaches manual.

This book emphasizes development of the seven basic skills identified by USA Wrestling: position, motion, level change, penetration, backstep, lifting, and back arch. Every drill is fully illustrated to make teaching fast and easy. Each drill also features a description that includes appropriate skill level, purpose, basic skills used, prerequisites for performance, procedures involved, coaching points, and safety concerns where necessary. Unique features of the book include an index that itemizes drills by area of emphasis and games - such as Mat Chess and Sumo Wrestling - that make practice fun and help keep wrestlers motivated. Plus all of the drills are designed to prepare wrestlers for actual match situations they're sure to encounter.

Winning Wrestling Moves Review

I was a 3 time city champ wrestler so I know a plenty about this great sport. I remember reading this book in my sophomore year as I signed up for the wrestling team in my H.S. after they decided to bring the sport back after a one year absence. Everything that the coach thought we weren't ready for the book helped me cover it. I won rookie of the year, city champ and made co-captain as a sophomore The book gave me an edge over several of my team mates (Except the seniors who wrestled in the previous teams.) I'm not saying that the book taught me and made me an outstanding and super wrestler, my coach helped me improve my techniques. I recommend that if you recently joined a wrestling team and have no knowledge other than a couple of moves, buy this book. However, don't let anyone know you're reading it. Surprise everyone by pulling a move during practice and you'll probably make co-captain too.
