(More customer reviews)This books assumes you have a basic knowledge of knitting and very little knowledge of knitting socks. That's what I wanted in a first sock book. There are explanations of each sock part, how to use double-pointed needles, and various other tidbits that might be useful to a first-time sock knitter. The instructions are set up step by step and are easy to follow.
The only problem I had with my first pair of socks was the short row heel, but I re-read the author's section entitled "You Can Do It!" and realized her explanation of short rowing did make sense. You really do follow the pattern and it comes out looking like a heel.
The patterns are lovely and fairly simple. There are patterns that would be a pleasant challenge to a sock newbie. If you're looking for more difficult patterns, this probably isn't the book for you. But, if you are new to knitting socks, this is a wonderful book.

(More customer reviews)This book just arrived and I was so inspired just by flipping through it that I'm already planning which pattern I want to knit first. The author did an amazing job of including so many attractive patterns. It also lives up to the "every body" part of it's title with a pattern for men and one for a young girl (see cover for these adorable socks). I will caution that this is probably for someone who has some knitting experience. The patterns are wonderfully elaborate, intricate, and absolutely gorgeous. Part I includes info about toe-up socks including fit and tools. It even includes 2 nicely organized pages on how to design your own - which I fully intend to use. Part II are the patterns in 3 sections - Lace, Cable, and Colorwork. This is followed by an appendix with techniques with ample illustrations. Finally, there is a single page "Index" that includes a thumbname picture and page reference of each pair of socks in the book - what a thoughtful and useful addition. I could go on and on about how great this book is but I need to stop writing so I can start knitting!! Thanks to Wendy for my new favorite sock book.

(More customer reviews)I was worried because in many of the pictures, the socks are not really knee-high on the models, in fact on some they are barely mid-calf. I happily found out though, that the publisher picked mostly very tall models (6 ft) and of course the socks are short on them. All of the patterns are made for normal sized women so they look very odd on the long legged models. I'm glad I got the book. The patterns are lovely, and the directions for customized fit are good. If you like knee-socks, this is the book for you!
