From Head to Toe Board Book Review

This is a fantastic book! The large, colorful pictures and the simple, clear text keep children bending and stretching right along with the animals! Still, unlike many of the reviewers who loved this for their one-year-olds, we found that this book didn't work for my active, not very verbal daughter when she was one (even though she sat for other books). We pulled it out again around the time she turned 2 and she LOVED IT. This book was a huge hit. Now at almost 4 it is still one of her favorites. Even if she's tired at bedtime she gets on the floor to do her donkey kicks along with the donkey! My older daughter also reported that this was one of her preschool teacher's favorite storytime books.I would say that for many children this book, despite it's deceptively simple pictures and text, is more appropriate for older children (age 2-4). This is a book I buy all the time for 2nd birthdays - It's always a hit! (especially good for active kids who prefer being "active" listeners!)This is an excellent choice for a book that will last kids for years!

Maybelle, Bunny of the North Review

Maybelle, Bunny of the North
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have to admit, I had never heard of Homer, Alaska before reading Maybelle, Bunny of the North. I was intrigued to find out more. Turns out, Homer is the place where "the land ends and the sea begins." It's noted widely for significant numbers of halibut and it's become a destination spot for many Alaskan visitors. Some visitors head there looking for adventure, while others go for a relaxing getaway.
The main character, Maybelle lives in Homer, Alaska and just like the town's visitors, she looks for adventure and enjoys the relaxing getaway that Homer provides. Maybelle is a high-spirited bunny who acts as a little tour guide and teaches us about the seasons in Homer.
"The winter days are short and cold here. But the summer days are long and sunny."
The easy-to-read text follows Maybelle around the magestic playground as she experiences the soothing aspects of nature and outdoor play and later eases into sleep, dreaming of her adventures at the end of the day. Whether she's scampering in the fireweed, sloshing through the melting snow and ice, searching for special rocks at the beach, or visiting the Two Sisters Bakery, she always has time to offer a friendly "hiya" to her neighbors.
This is a wonderful book to share with young readers to teach them about Alaska, the changing seasons, and the wonderful aspects that the outdoors has to offer. The watercolor illustrations bring Maybelle to life as she takes a hot bath in the sink, chases the geese in the fall, and walks through the fireweed.

The Very Fairy Princess Review

The Very Fairy Princess
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"The Very Fairy Princess" is a charming and witty story about young Geraldine, who believes with her entire being that she is a fairy princess -- even when others do not. She believes because she feels it inside. Julie Andrews Edwards and Emma Walton Hamilton have written a brilliant story with a very strong message and creative language every little girl will remember and want to use. The book is beautifully illustrated.
I know after reading this book to my granddaughter, she was showing us her "sparkle." It also gave us the opportunity to encourage her to find the sparkle in her mommy, daddy, grandma and grandpa. It's challenging to find the right words to use when talking with young children about inner belief, courage and self-esteem. It is remarkable how just one special word, "sparkle" can convey so much to a young child. This book is a keeper with our princess! I highly recommend it for all little princesses 4-8 yrs of age.

Knee-Knock Rise Review

We had the honor of having Mrs. Babbitt read the final chapter to our second graders. They enjoyed debating the issue of whether the Megrimum was real or not. The joy about the book and the author is that each reader must decide. As for me I believe the Megrimum will live forever.

Knees Up Mother Earth (Brentford Trilogy) Review

Knees Up Mother Earth (Brentford Trilogy)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Knees Up Mother Earth concerns the forces of darkness and their attempts to gain control of Brentford football (soccer) ground, so they can bring about Apocalypse. Only two professional layabouts can save the world, by getting Brentford to win the FA cup. This is near-impossible, but the forces of darkness aren't about to let it happen. Then things get complicated, when all sorts of strangeness appears...
Rankin likes in-jokes, wordplay, and general silliness, but it's not comedy, more sly humour. This isn't as good as some of his books, but it's not bad. It's a good break from more serious reading.
This is the seventh in the Brentford trilogy and the second in the Witches of Chiswick of Trilogy, and though it's not necessary to have read either (you'll pick it up quickly enough) I recommend having read the Witches of Chiswick first.

Developers are planning to destroy Brentford's beloved football grounds. Something must be done, and the lads of The Flying Swan, Brentford's celebrated drinking house, take up the challenge. Norman has recently discovered a Victorian computer that holds the secrets of the super-technology of a bygone age, and Archroy, Brentford's lone explorer, has just returned from his seventh voyage, bringing with him the fabled Golden Fleece. Surely, with these stalwarts working for the cause, the field is as good as saved. But this is Brentford, and the ancient forces of evil-Old Testament horrors, beasties from the bottomless pit, that sort of evil-are stirring.

Fall On Your Knees (Oprah's Book Club) Review

Fall On Your Knees (Oprah's Book Club)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The only way that I can describe Fall on Your Knees is to compare it to a car accident. You don't want to look, but you can't stop yourself. The story of the Piper family is one of sadness, perversion, and well kept secrets. The writing is excellent, though the reader may find themselves confused at times. Some things are written like riddles, that leave you wondering if what you read means what you think it means. Keep reading..as the story unfolds, answers are revealed and things clarified. This is definitely a dark book, so prepare yourself, but it also is a page turner. This book is hard to put down, because you will want to know where is it going, why? What does this all mean? After completing it, I'm still trying to figure out if I liked it? But there is no question, the writing is supreme and the characters are still with me. That's good writing.
