Yoga for Pregnancy Review

This book is full of photos and detailed and clear descriptions of the moves. I plan to use the book a great deal and work the moves into my yoga routine. Even so, I'm not sure that it would be enough for someone who has no yoga experience. Also, I was looking for recommendations about other yoga moves I'm more familiar with (eg, "Don't do the cobra" "the cat is great for pregnant women") and it wasn't there.

Yoga is the ideal exercise for pregnancy, and this is the ideal yoga program for pregnant women, designed by two leading authorities in this specialized field. Both authors are mothers as well as recognized yoga experts, and they've taken classic yoga techniques-for breathing, movement, and relaxation-and carefully adapted them for each stage of pregnancy. The exercises help the mother keep her body supple, prepare her for delivery, relieve the pain of labor, ease childbirth, and get her back in shape afterward. No previous experience of yoga is needed, and safety is always given top priority.

Pilates Workbook for Pregnancy: Illustrated Step-by-Step Matwork Techniques Review

Pilates Workbook for Pregnancy: Illustrated Step-by-Step Matwork Techniques

This book addresses a number of very important issues of Pilates exercise and safety for pregnant women, with extensive consideration of your overall physical condition before and after delivery. A number of other Pilates books for pregnancy do not focus on important aspects of abdominal muscle integrity and the effects of hormones like relaxin on your body during pregnancy and after delivery. The exercise focus during and immediately after pregnancy should be on proper breathing, aiding your posture and stability, rather than "working out". This is a time to develop greater body awareness and breathing techniques, not to try for major fitness goals. Some Pilates exercises simply should not be pursued after the 20th week of pregnancy. Michael King's book will allow you to assess your pre-natal and post-partum condition and evaluate which exercises will be safe for you to perform, as well as beneficial for your body. An Excellent book.

As a prenatal yoga instructor I found this book very helpful in getting ideas for my classes. I love the fact that there is the symbols in the corner to show which positions are good for what trimester. This makes it easy for anyone to regulate which positions should be done. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is just starting out in yoga or who wants to stay fit and flexible throughout their pregnancy.

Yoga for Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond Review

Yoga for Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond

I'm a pre-natal yoga teacher, and I have many books on pregnancy yoga. This one is by far my favorite. The pictures are very detailed and well-done. Each pose is broken down step-by-step and has a photo to demonstrate the move. I also like that it is divided by early, mid, and late pregnancy. There is also a section on doing yoga with your baby after the birth.
This book will be the one I recommend to my students because it's simple, safe, and well-illustrated without being too Eastern in it's approach. It will suit the average American reader, while still staying true to the heart of yoga.
