Applying Dr. Vad's winning combination of mind/body wisdom and medical expertise to the game of golf, Golf Rx shares his cutting-edge findings. A list of exercises, alot like I see in aerobics classes, but no real plan for golf. I've seen most of these before, not really anything new. I picked up 2 really beneficial exercises out of the whole list.

It's not a secret that the most vital piece of golf equipment is the human body, yet most golfers believe the best ways to lower scores are big-head drivers, premium golf spikes, and other top-of-the-line tools. It's better physical conditioning that allows the pros to hit drives farther than ever, play 72-hole tournaments nearly every week, and rehabilitate even career-threatening injuries. These pros use the workouts prescribed by the fitness consultant and personal fitness trainer for players on both the PGA Tour and Senior PGA Tour, Kelly Blackburn.

In Exercises for Elite Golf Performance, Blackburn provides the same strength and flexibility program the pros use. Whether you're a fitness professional, teaching professional, coach, or a golfer serious about improving your game, this book ensures you're getting the top training program available. It includes 138 illustrated exercises and Blackburn's ""Fitness Analyzer,"" a series of tests golfers use to evaluate their beginning fitness level.

By using Blackburn's ""Elite Golf Performance Program,"" your shoulders will be more flexible and will rotate for a fuller backswing, and your stronger hip muscles will help you by putting more power behind the ball without having to consciously swing harder. This will result in longer, more accurate shots that allow you to club down and essentially shorten any course.

Don't be fooled into thinking new equipment is the only key in turning your golf game around. Use the pros' workouts to get in shape now and see significant results on your scorecard for the rest of your life.

Gary Player is known to be a excercise maniac. In this book he describes his program and illustrates 100 or so individual excercises. I found it almost too general and not specific to excercises designed to improve "golf" skills. Do you really need Gary Player to demonstrate the "push up"?
If one followed Mr. Player's program you would be fit for golf, life or just about anything else.

Golf After 50: Playing Without Pain Review

After hearing the author of this book interviewed on a syndicated XM radio talk show I decided to get the book for my 76 year old dad. He is an avid golfer and like many golfers his age is seeing his game deteriorate simply due to his age. This book covers strengthening and stretching exercises. It covers nutrition issues. When my dad received the book he immediately read it cover to cover. He said some of the exercises he already did in his routine and some were new to him. He is now doing many of the exercises in this book and claims it has helped him. My dad liked the book so much he went right out and bought one for his 64 year old brother-in-law for Christmas.

Upon purchasing this book I was able to resolve several of my most nagging golf swing faults , i.e. slicing, topping and fat shots. I now have more confidence in my game and see the results in the form of lower scores. I would highly recommend purchasing another of Mr. Leadbetters books titled "The Fundamentals of Hogan". When used in conjunction these books are a solid referance/teaching tool that should help most golfers improve thier game. Information in one title can be found in the other but The Fundamentals of Hogan goes more in depth and is a solid starting point whereas Faults and Fixes is a troubleshooting guide for when the "basics" arent working. Overall I would say that both books are an indespesible addition to any golfers library! Happy golfing !

Dr. Divot's Guide to Golf Injuries: A Handbook for Golf Injury Prevention and Treatment Review

Dr. Divot's Guide to Golf Injuries: A Handbook for Golf Injury Prevention and Treatment

Having taken up golf again once my son had grown, I quickly realized that I was not in the physical shape of the 20 year old I had been when I first started playing in college. After my first injury to my elbow and a badly strained shoulder, I started looking around for a book that would help me with conditioning, preventing injuries and counsel me if (please, no!) this happened once again. At this point I had had enough of physical therapy, MRIs, etc. and didn't wish to injure myself further.
In his book Dr. Divot addresses in two of his chapters The Female Golfer and The Older Golfer -- just made for me, although I have trouble admitting the latter. Over this winter I'm even trying out some of his conditioning exercises in the hope of beginning the golf season stronger and less prone to injury.
I gave copies of his book as gifts to my golf group this past Christmas -- we're all female golfers, but not all of us will admit to being older. We'll see how we do in the Spring.

The Secret of Hogan's Swing Review

The Secret of Hogan's Swing
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is an excellent book about the legacy of Ben Hogan's legendary work and discoveries that revolutionized the game of golf. Like the ancient oral traditions of many cultures, the transmittal of wisdom from person to person, master to student, has been the most certain way to insure that real knowledge survives and continues on from one generation to the next.
Here the authors have written a fascinating chronicle of Hogan, the master, passing on his hard-earned wisdom to John Schlee, the student, over a period of five years during the late 60s and early 70s. Schlee, a Tour player whose ailing back forced him to retire in 1978, later founded the Maximum Golf School and became well known for teaching Hogan's swing secrets to students from around the country. In 1985 Schlee met Tom Bertrand, an eager young player searching for the real thing, who became his student and later partner. Tom's focus was to learn, teach and record in detail the wealth of knowledge that Schlee had received from Hogan, much of which came after the 1957 publication of Hogan's "Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf." Hogan never stopped working, experimenting, and discovering more about his life-long obsession, the game of golf. And Schlee was the beneficiary of almost two decades of new revelations unearthed by the master and unrecorded until now.
This book is as close as John Schlee may ever get to having his own biography. While the authors highlight Schlee's career (winner of the PGA's first Q-School in 1965, second to Johnny Miller in the 1963 U.S. Open at Oakmont, one of Hogan's less-than-a-handful of long-term students, developer of the long putter and clubhead adjustable weighting systems, pioneer of lightweight milled putter heads, and more), their primary purpose was to gather up the sum and essence of Hogan's wisdom and offer it to all of us. This they have done with clarity and simplicity so that any golfer can understand and use these teachings to refine his/ her game. For this purpose, Hogan's relationship with Schlee is important for what it yielded in practical golf wisdom, and the authors have covered that aspect quite thoroughly.

This book is very well written in a simple yet eloquent style that makes you feel like you're part of a conversation with the authors. They look you straight in the eye and just share their story, like one golfer to the other. What Hogan gave to Schlee, and Schlee gave to Tom Bertrand, the authors now give to us as fellow seekers in our endless pursuit of golfing excellence. There's a lot of magic and light bulbs going off in this book, and I won't spoil it for you. Check it out yourself and be ready for some pleasant surprises and new understandings about the game we all love.

The Keys to the Effortless Golf Swing: Curing Your Hit Impulse in Seven Simple Lessons Review

The Keys to the Effortless Golf Swing: Curing Your Hit Impulse in Seven Simple Lessons
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have invested the last year building a correct, accurate and repeatable golf swing. During that time I've read more than twenty golf instruction books. My readings have helped build my understanding of the golf swing and have supplemented my golf lessons.
This book is one of the lesser known golf instructional books by a relatively unknown author. Through my readings I have found that the most well-known professional golfers don't necessarily produce the best golf instructional books.
For a clear, fundamental description of the golf swing, this book is one of the best. With the instruction in the book, your understanding of the body movements required to create a correct golf swing will grow rapidly. Using the instruction in this book, my golf swing improved dramatically in a very short time.
I highly recommend this book. If you are just beginning to play golf or if you are a long time hacker wanting to learn a proper and correct golf swing, this is the book that will give you the instruction you need to improve rapidly.
