(More customer reviews)This is a great buy. Not very practical for day-to-day use. I prefer Hoppenfeld and Pocket Guide to Musculoskeletal Diagnosis for a practical physical exam. And the Pocket Guide to MSK Dx is also good for history taking. But Dutton is a good buy for a reference book and has some good info in it.

(More customer reviews)This is a great, small book that can be used for quick reference when working with orthopedic patients. The pictures are small but it is not meant as a true anatomical atlas. It includes some nice x-rays, plenty of common pathological conditions and a few quick tests.

(More customer reviews)I bought this book in 2000(4th Edition 1997) when I was doing my PM&R residency as PGYII, rotating through outpatient clinic. At that time, as a GYII resident, I realized that I had little skill in performing musculoskeletal exams, because my internship in internal medicine earlier did not offer any training in outpatient orthopedic clinic where such skills could be taught. I needed a book from which I could learn these skills in the shortest time. With this in mind, I made the decision to purchase this book based on a senior resident's recommendation. I found this book to be well written, comprehensive, yet concise, easy to read and follow. It teaches numerous techniques used to exam bone, joint, muscle and nerve commonly used in orthopedic examination, while extremely extensive, eg, from the exam of distal interphalangeal joint of elderly to the exam of club foot in infant, but fortunately, most of the exams are presented in drawings, which make them easy to understand and to remember. There is a very will written text section, preceding the illustration of orthopedic exams of specific anatomic region, providing readers with background information on commonly seen orthopedic entities. What I like most about this book is that it avoids using lengthy descriptions; instead, it makes use of numerous simple drawings with clear illustrations, contrasted with corresponding radiographic images, which enable the readers to grasp the fundamentals and the abnormals with ease.

(More customer reviews)Overall Current Essentials Ortho is a good book. This is definitely a review book, so you have to have some idea about orthopedics for real benefit. I was disappointed in the time it took for the book to arrive. From the time I received email notification that the book was "mailed" to the time I actually received the book in the mail it was well over 15 days. This was not satisfactory seeing as how 2 other books that I ordered at the same time arrived within 5 days of placing my order.

It gives you what you need to know to feel comfortable with injections you haven't done before. It also give enough to help improve your current technique. In a practice where several senior attendings have been teaching injection techniques for years, this book has helped me polish my confidence. My only beef is with the in-office SI joint injection. I'd just recommend they leave this one to the specialists. Overall, this book is great for quick get-in-and-get-out information. Thanks Macnabb.

Netter's Concise Orthopaedic Anatomy (Netter Basic Science) Review

(More customer reviews)Purchased as a personal reference, and as a visual aid in explaining things to patients who have questions about their problems. Just received the book early this morning, and began going through it. This book is excellent. I really like the fact that this is about orthopedics and only orthopedics. Previously I had used a set of the Netter flash cards for this purpose, but a colleague showed me this, and it was much better for our purposes. Unlike the flash cards, this is a handy "all in one" reference, and it is not cluttered up with information unrelated to my area of practice. Also, I can drop it in the pocket of my lab coat if I want to take it along. No cards to fumble through or misplace. If you are working in orthopedics, or planning to do so, I would recommend this book without reservation.
