Not laminated on both sides, so might not last quite as long.
Still a really good tool for patient education.

Clinical Orthopaedic Examination Review

Clinical Orthopaedic Examination
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this book in 2000(4th Edition 1997) when I was doing my PM&R residency as PGYII, rotating through outpatient clinic. At that time, as a GYII resident, I realized that I had little skill in performing musculoskeletal exams, because my internship in internal medicine earlier did not offer any training in outpatient orthopedic clinic where such skills could be taught. I needed a book from which I could learn these skills in the shortest time. With this in mind, I made the decision to purchase this book based on a senior resident's recommendation. I found this book to be well written, comprehensive, yet concise, easy to read and follow. It teaches numerous techniques used to exam bone, joint, muscle and nerve commonly used in orthopedic examination, while extremely extensive, eg, from the exam of distal interphalangeal joint of elderly to the exam of club foot in infant, but fortunately, most of the exams are presented in drawings, which make them easy to understand and to remember. There is a very will written text section, preceding the illustration of orthopedic exams of specific anatomic region, providing readers with background information on commonly seen orthopedic entities. What I like most about this book is that it avoids using lengthy descriptions; instead, it makes use of numerous simple drawings with clear illustrations, contrasted with corresponding radiographic images, which enable the readers to grasp the fundamentals and the abnormals with ease.

CURRENT Essentials Orthopedics (LANGE CURRENT Essentials) Review

CURRENT Essentials Orthopedics (LANGE CURRENT Essentials)
Average Reviews:

Overall Current Essentials Ortho is a good book. This is definitely a review book, so you have to have some idea about orthopedics for real benefit. I was disappointed in the time it took for the book to arrive. From the time I received email notification that the book was "mailed" to the time I actually received the book in the mail it was well over 15 days. This was not satisfactory seeing as how 2 other books that I ordered at the same time arrived within 5 days of placing my order.

A Practical Guide to Joint and Soft Tissue Injection and Aspiration: An Illustrated Text for Primary Care Providers Review

A Practical Guide to Joint and Soft Tissue Injection and Aspiration: An Illustrated Text for Primary Care Providers

I bought this book for review and learning during my interventional MSK fellowship. It gives you what you need to know to feel comfortable with injections you haven't done before. It also give enough to help improve your current technique. In a practice where several senior attendings have been teaching injection techniques for years, this book has helped me polish my confidence. My only beef is with the in-office SI joint injection. I'd just recommend they leave this one to the specialists. Overall, this book is great for quick get-in-and-get-out information. Thanks Macnabb.

The Blessing of a B Minus: Using Jewish Teachings to Raise Resilient Teenagers Review

The Blessing of a B Minus: Using Jewish Teachings to Raise Resilient Teenagers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A book with the year's best title just happens to be the best book on parenting teens. It purports to use Jewish teachings to raise resilient teenagers, but whether or not that is the source of this life-saving wisdom, as a parent of former teenagers (they are now in their forties), I can't praise this books message enough. In fact, instead of nitpicking, let me give you some of its invaluable conclusions:
1.Bizarre teen behavior, so annoyingly not in line with your dreams and plans, is a sign that your teen's unique personality is unfolding.
2.Teenaged rudeness is a paradox. It lets you know that your teen is trying desperately to separate from you and that your are the "safe" person who can receive their frustration with not yet being all grown up.
3.One of the ways teens learn about the importance of hard work is by suffering the consequences of their procrastination and laziness.
4.Materialism and self-centeredness are normal during this period of rapid and shifting identity. Just as a pregnant woman focuses inward, adolescents are preoccupied as they give birth to themselves.
5.When teens break the rules, or even the law, it is often because they aren't satisfied with a merely rote knowledge of our ethical system. They want to know if adults mean what they say.
6.Teens getting into hot water provides an excellent opportunity for learning self-reliance: how to solve problems and how to mine difficult circumstances for their benefits.
7.Staying up late is sometimes a teen's shot at independence, and goofing around is a way to ease the stresses of growing up.
8.Finally, limited experimentation with alcohol, physical intimacy, and even drugs teaches teens how to regulate these powerful experiences and keep themselves safe while they are still under your guidance.
"In other words," as the author says in an interview, "teens have to do a lot of dumb stuff in order to get smart."

As a parent of 2 teenage boys I was looking for a book on youth strength training and I found it!The descriptions of sample programs are easy to understand and the photos of starting and finishing positions of every exercise are priceless. Highly recommended to parents who want to learn about safe and proper techniques for lifting weights.

Netter's Concise Orthopaedic Anatomy (Netter Basic Science) Review

Netter's Concise Orthopaedic Anatomy (Netter Basic Science)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Purchased as a personal reference, and as a visual aid in explaining things to patients who have questions about their problems. Just received the book early this morning, and began going through it. This book is excellent. I really like the fact that this is about orthopedics and only orthopedics. Previously I had used a set of the Netter flash cards for this purpose, but a colleague showed me this, and it was much better for our purposes. Unlike the flash cards, this is a handy "all in one" reference, and it is not cluttered up with information unrelated to my area of practice. Also, I can drop it in the pocket of my lab coat if I want to take it along. No cards to fumble through or misplace. If you are working in orthopedics, or planning to do so, I would recommend this book without reservation.

Ghost Dancing the Law: The Wounded Knee Trials Review

Ghost Dancing the Law: The Wounded Knee Trials
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you have an interest in the legal presentation in the Wounded Knee trials that led to Leonard Peltier's imprisonment, this is your book. Sayer demonstrates with clear evidence how corrupt out legal system is coupled with the power of the media in political matters, such as the wrongful imprisonment of Peltier.
The book gets into documents and testimony that you would think proves Peltier's innocence. However, there is a force that is greater than the truth, and that is corruption!
The American Indian Movement (AIM) and its attorneys have little chance as long as the American public remains blind to the powers that be in the legal system and in government. This book is an eye opener. However, be aware that the reading can seem mundane at times unless you have a keen eye and interest in legal jargon. I was lost a few times but finishing the book was worth it to hear the other version of "truth".
I recommend this book if you have any interest at all in the Leonard Peltier story or of the corruption of a system that works for the government, not for the people.
