The Young Athlete: A Sports Doctor's Complete Guide for Parents Review

Informative and easy to read
The Young Athlete is packed with information on every aspect of children and sports, and it's fun to read because the authors have a sense of humor while still being serious. The chapter on nutrition is the clearest explanation of the subject I've ever read. There's a great section (the authors say to xerox and keep in your sports bag) on what to do in case of concussion, bruised ribs, etc.; when to go to the emergency room; how much water to drink. It's also wise and practical about keeping sports in perspective and avoiding the win-at-all-costs syndrome. If you have a child playing youth sports, get this book.

Great sourcebook for young athletes, coaches and parents that debunks the myths associated with physical fitness for children. Provides great guidance to help children safely improve their performance while also helping to prevent injury. A wise investment for the serious young athlete. Recommended by the renowned sports orthopedic practice at Boston's Children's Hospital. Written for adults but readable by children.

As a parent of 2 teenage boys I was looking for a book on youth strength training and I found it!The descriptions of sample programs are easy to understand and the photos of starting and finishing positions of every exercise are priceless. Highly recommended to parents who want to learn about safe and proper techniques for lifting weights.
