Sheng Zhen Wuji Yuan Gong: Qigong of Unconditional Love Review

Sheng Zhen Wuji Yuan Gong: Qigong of Unconditional Love

The book is written by the originator of this particular style of qigong, Master Li Jun Feng, and is the authoritative guide for any practitioner of Sheng Zhen Wuji Yuan Gong. It contains some background material, but is basically a 'how-to' book.
Every posture, or exercise, is described technically and is illustrated by photos of Master Li performing it. Additionally the postures has a set of contemplations that the practitioner can use to enhance the effect of the exercises. Sheng Zhen Wuji Yuan Gong is constructed as series of postures that each can take anywhere from 10 minutes to several hours to perform depending on the speed and number of repetitions of each exercise the practitioner wishes to do. There are four standing and three sitting series of postures as well as two different types of meditations that are all covered by this book.
Like any book of this kind it best serves the purpose of being a helpful additional tool and cannot fully replace the hands-on guidance of a good teacher. But as such it is excellent, with hundreds of good photos and easy-to-follow descriptions of each exercise. Any motivated qigong practitioner should be able to learn the forms from the book. Even more so if done in combination with the available videos.
The author is well known in China, as he used to be the head coach of the Beijing Wushu (martial art / kung fu) Team as well as the National Wushu Team for many years, He also starred in some Chinese martial arts movies before giving it all up to dedicate his time to develop and teach this beautiful and inspiring form of qigong.
I can personally vouch for the effectiveness of the Sheng Zhen Wuji Yuan Gong style of qigong when it comes to fulfilling the promises of Chinese energy cultivation. The exercises are easy to learn (but can be hard to master) and feel good to do. Unlike some other schools of qigong there are no stringent demands of what time of the day you should train, the cardinal directions and such. But it is no less 'serious' for that. Practicing Sheng Zhen Wuji Yuan Gong is effective for your health and well-being, and might do some very nice things for your mind and spirit as well.

Sheng Zhen Wuji Yuan Gong: Qigong of Unconditional Love, A Return to Oneness Starting the practice of Sheng Zhen Wuji Yuan Gong is the first step of a journey to our origin. Our origin, our true homeland, is the state in which we experience the feeling of complete well-being. Tai Chi Chuan: Body and Mind in Harmony Review

Tai Chi Chuan: Body and Mind in Harmony

In this first popular explanation in English of T'ai Chi Ch'uan (Wu Style), Sophia Delza, the only Western woman master of the system [circa 1961], discusses its underlying philosophy and describes every step of each movement in picture and lucid text. Of it she says:
T'ai Chi Ch'uan is a system of activating the body for the development of physical, emotional and mental well-being that produces a feeling of satisfaction and a sense of tranquility that Western exercises do not give. This in itself may not sound unusual since many exercises so promise, but what is unique in this case is the technical method, with its form and spirit, which promotes the desirable state.
We in the West are apt to overdo in exercises and sports, believing that a hard, tense movement indicates strength and control and that power comes from the ability to expend strength violently. The technique of T'ai Chi Ch'uan is contrary to such a method. It is in the philosophy of T'ai Chi Ch'uan that energy can be controlled, strength balanced, vitality stabalized by using the body in such a way as not to strain the muscles, not to overactivate the heart, not to exert oneself excessively. The technique of T'ai Chi Ch'uan is based not only on a physical method, but also on an emotional and mental attitude, from which a state of awareness, calmness nd concentration evolves. This consideration of man's total health is intrinsic in the forms and techniques of T'ai Chi Ch'uan.

The Complete Book Of T'ai Chi (DK Living) Review

The Complete Book Of T'ai Chi (DK Living)

I have studied three books on Tai Chi. The different forms used by different masters can create confusion. The form in this book is an accepted standard. The layout, details, photographs, tips and text are superb. Pictures of the entire form are reproduced, in sequence, on the fly leaves. Learning Tai Chi requires a teacher. But this book will accelerate your learning process appreciably.

Energy Balance through the Tao: Exercises for Cultivating Yin Energy Review

Energy Balance through the Tao: Exercises for Cultivating Yin Energy
Average Reviews:

Many of the BIG problems in Health, Psychology and Relationships can be said to originate in an excess of Yang energy. Not just the excesses of aggression, winning, and dominating, but the whole frenetic race toward ever more energy draining and attenton demanding multi-tasking. Our society is becoming progressively more hypomanic and it sometimes seems that it is only a matter of time before everyone will start to show symptoms of attention deficit disorder! Some of the illnesses that are becoming more prevalent, including some of the disorders of immune function, digestion and thermoregulation, can also be thought of as consequences of a rampant and unbalanced Yang force.
It is desperately important for us to try and balance those excesses in our own lives, and it is a tough call with so many demands on us. The exercises in this book are all designed to balance the Yin and Yang energies of our bodies. Cultivating Yin energy is particularly important for men and these exercises really fit the bill. What I have always liked about Mantak Chia's work, is that he tries to provide explanations for the exercises, rather than just providing a catalog of techniques. And some of the exercises can have potent effects.
Some of the exercises require some strength and flexibility, so I recommend that people should have a discussion with their health care provider before starting this kind of new program.
This is a reprint of the book Tao Yin: Excercises for Revitalization, Health & Longevity, which was published in Thailand in 1999. There are only some minor differences between the two.
If you don't have the earlier book, you will find a lot of valuable material here.

Dragon and Tiger Medical Qigong: A Miracle Health System for Developing Chi Review

Dragon and Tiger Medical Qigong: A Miracle Health System for Developing Chi

Of the Qigong books I have looked at or read (about 15), I feel this is the most clear for those without the benefit of having a teacher. Combining it with the DVD series would be wise, for reasons mentioned by the other reviewer, Robert Hughes. However, I wouldn't say the DVDs were absolutely necessary for everyone, particularly for those who have some degree of coordination in hand and foot movements from studying other types of Qigong or the martial arts. For those people, supplementing this book with the Youtube videos might be all they'd need to get decent gain. To paraphrase the author, "the beauty of Dragon & Tiger is that even an approximation of the movements will give the practitioner benefits".
Also, like the aforementioned reviewer, I wouldn't say learning it well is "easy". However, it's certainly far easier than some of the other styles of Qigong and not difficult for those with the patience and willingness to follow a slow and methodical step by step process, especially with a full height mirror to watch.
Now for my gripe. I would have gladly given this book 5 stars had all the moves been presented together in the back. Instead, Energy Arts wants you to buy that for $14.95 additional in the form of a poster. While the poster would be much more convenient than flipping through a few pages, I believe the complete set of moves should have been part of the book. The poster could have still been sold separately for its convenience.
In summary, other than the above gripe, this is a great detailed step by step book with no language related barriers.
