Murder List Review

Being a first time reader of Julie Garwood's books, I thought that this novel was both interesting and captivating, as well as exciting and romantic. The main character has a definite dramatic silly side to her, which most girls can relate to! Unlike many others reviewing this book, I haven't read Garwood's historical romances, so I am not sure how it compares to those. However, if one preferred historical romances, I can understand why they would give this book a poor review. It is exciting and modern and takes place in a very cosmopolitan setting. My preferred reading material is either murder mysteries or modern and light-hearted, bordering on funny, romances. This book did a great job fulfilling both my criteria for a good book and I would recommend it to anyone with similar interests. The characters have great, distinctive personalities, there are a lot of places where the killer could be hiding, the main character has an amusing family, and last but not least, the hero is enough to make a woman weak in the knees... at least if you have as active of an imagination as I do. I hope others have the pleasure of reading this book, and base its merit on what it is, not what the author's past books have been.

There are few authors who can weave nail-biting thrills, edge-of-your-seat drama, and romantic suspense as masterfully as Julie Garwood. Now she ratchets up the tension with Murder List, in which evil is on the hunt– and proves to be methodically organized and chillingly successful. When Chicago detective Alec Buchanan is offered a prime position with the FBI, it is the perfect opportunity to leave the Windy City and follow in his brothers' footsteps to the top echelons of law enforcement. But first he must complete one last assignment (and one that he is not too happy about): acting as a glorified bodyguard to hotel heiress Regan Hamilton Madison. The gorgeous exec has become entangled in some potentially deadly business. Someone has e-mailed her a graphic crime-scene photo–and the victim is no stranger.Regan suspects that the trouble started when she agreed to help a journalist friend expose a shady self-help guru who preys on lonely, vulnerable women. In fact, the smooth-as-an-oil-slick Dr. Lawrence Shields may be responsible for the death of one of his devotees, which was ruled a suicide. Hoping to find some damning evidence, Regan attends a Shields seminar. At the gathering, the doctor persuades his guests to partake in an innocent little "cleansing" exercise. He asks them to make a list of the people who have hurt or deceived them over the years, posing the question: Would your world be a better place if these people ceased to exist? Treating the exercise as a game, Regan plays along. After ten minutes, Shields instructs the participants to bring their sheets of paper to the fireplace and throw them into the flames. But Regan misses this part of the program when she exits the room to take a call–and barely escapes a menacing individual in the parking lot.The experience is all but forgotten–until the first person on Regan's list turns up dead. Shock turns to horror when other bodies from the list start to surface, as a harrowing tango of desire and death is set into motion. Now brutal murders seem to stalk her every move–and a growing attraction to Alec may compromise her safety, while stirring up tender emotions she thought she could no longer feel. Yet as the danger intensifies and a serial killer circles ever closer, Regan must discover who has turned her private revenge fantasies into grisly reality.

Blushing Cheeks: Volume One Review

Blushing Cheeks: Volume One
Average Reviews:

I found Blushing Cheeks Volume One to be somewhat of a disappointment. I expected an interesting and stimulating read in the genre that was described in the blurb, but found a very bland and nearly PG-13 rated collection of three stories that were supposedly written by three different authors. The stories were so similar in the portrayal of the heroines that I had to check to see if they were actually credited to different authors. I found the heroines' submissiveness to be a bit unbelievable. The joint theme in all three stories is spanking and I found it hard to believe that these women would just allow the males in these stories to turn them over their knees and spank them as a matter of course. I allow that I am no expert in that particular area of experience, but I have read other stories involving spanking and mild BDSM that had much better premises. I guess the over all feeling I got from these stories was that the heroines had no backbone and expected to be spanked and believed they deserved it and that the males had a right to teach them lessons and decide if their behavior was appropriate or not. I think I will look for other authors in this genre that take a different approach to this concept.

This collection contains three complete novellas from three of Blushing Books top authors. These are not some short samples - this is sixteen chapters, over 60,000 words - for 99cents. Why are we doing this? Because we want you to try our books and our authors at almost no risk to you!Blushing Books publishes romances' with a twist. If you love old-fashioned romances where the feisty heroine ends up not only in the hero's bed for hot loving, but occasionally bare-bottomed over his knee for some even hotter (and usually well-deserved) spanking, our novels and novellas are for you! Do you want to know if he can REALLY tame that brat? You're in the right place. "The Good Man" by Carolyn Faulkner: Life in “The County" hadn't changed much in decades, and Emily Robertson wanted much more out of her own life - despite the fact that that meant leaving Daniel, the man her heart so desperately wanted. But when she ended up back in the same small town they'd grown up in, Daniel takes complete advantage of an enforced encounter to lure her back into his arms - and he wasn't going to let her go again, for any reason! Does a throbbing bum makes settling down a lot easier for a wanna-be city mouse? Emily's about to find out."Cade" by Paige Tyler: The beautiful, but irritating Riley Barnett has been a thorn in the side of the U.S. Marshals Service ever since she entered the Witness Protection Program. And now that she once again believes her identity has been compromised, new U.S. Marshal Cade Cutler is the one sent to placate her. But the simple task of babysitting her is made more difficult when she refuses to obey his simplest instructions. Cade has never met a woman so infuriating, and soon realizes that the only way to get through to her is to put her over his knee for a good, sound spanking. Riley, though, will be damned if she's going to take orders from the gorgeous Marshal just because he spanks her, especially when he refuses to believe that she's actually in danger. She has been in the Witness Protection Program long enough to know when someone is after her, even if all of the other times had been false alarms. But when it turns out that she's right this time, Riley has to depend on Cade to protect her, even if that means putting up with his spankings every time she refuses to follow his silly rules!"Her Personal Trainer" by Starla Kaye: Elizabeth Wingate receives an invitation to a cruise that will be her high school reunion. She remembers all the rejection she`d felt from her classmates, how she`d been teased hurtfully too many times. Inwardly she still felt like that woman no one could seem to love. She absolutely should not go on this stupid cruise. But she wanted to, she needed to. She needed some help first, though. Someone to help her whip her slightly out-of-shape body into bikini shape. So when her business partner suggests a personal trainer, that seems the perfect answer -- except for all of that horrible exercise stuff.Chase Sawyer owes Elizabeth`s mother a favor and agrees to escort her to a gala since he will be in Kansas City for a few weeks anyway. He`s never gone on a blind date and detests the idea. Arriving in town early, he decides to go meet the young woman he`s positive he won`t be attracted to, only to discover how strongly he is drawn to her. When she mistakes him for a personal trainer, he latches on to that opportunity to get to know her better. And as he does, he realizes the little spitfire, who isn't always cooperative about exercising and who needs an occasional bottom warming to get her back on track, might finally be the woman to make him settle down.

This was an okay read. I wish the stories were not so short. It seems like there was more missing. I don't know about others who have read it but it seemed typos were found on every two pages or so.

The Centurion Review

Britain under Roman siege, both the times and the people were grim and determined. This author has written some hard edged books so I was concerned as I read this book that it would be similar to 'Spoils of War' which was just unrelentingly grim and torturous. But I read through to the end and I was pleasantly surprised at the turns it takes and was satisfied with it's ending once I got there. I recommend it but only if you a) don't mind the initial grim torturousness of the heroine's captivity and b) have patience to get where it's going as I found that made the book worthwhile to me. YMMV, of course.

"When he met her inquiring eyes, he shrugged. “I hate gossip. This'll make ‘em wonder," he grinned at her devilishly.Brietta didn't know quite what to do with the way her new husband was behaving. He was taking part in the negotiations with the Romans, such as they were, and was gone all day almost every day. But when he was home, he was with her. Sometimes he caught the tail end of her training with her Grandfather, who, although he grumbled a lot about why she bothered to continue doing it, still managed to make it to the field where she practiced almost every day. He often put his hand on hers at dinner, or his arm around her waist while they were walking, employing very small, casual intimacies to tame her to his hand."

Lost interest half way into the book. There were parts where a paragraph that was at the end of a chapter would be repeated at the beginning of the next.
