Renny Johnson is startled awake in the dead of night. Knowing that someone is in her house, she grabs a bat and lies in wait for the intruder to come through her bedroom door. When he does, Renny hits him as hard as she can, dropping him like a fly. Heart still pounding, she knows that she needs to immobilize him and quickly call the police. That is, until she realizes that her suspect in Nicholas, her ex-husband. Instead, a different plan hatches in Renny's head - she wants answers about why he divorced her so suddenly, and she is willing to keep him tied up to get them.
Nicholas Johnson slowly comes awake with a horrendous headache and the inability to move. Finding himself hogtied and at Renny's mercy makes him more aroused than he ever thought possible. When she demands answers from him, Nicholas dodges and ducks like a champion prizefighter. Unfortunately, his evasion isn't working because Renny wants his guts served up and laid out on a platter. Nicholas doesn't know what to think because all he wanted was his prized baseball bat.
Renny and Nicholas spend a night full of erotic and steamy sex, but when the morning comes Renny realizes she is no closer to having her answers than she was the night before. When she finally gets Nicholas to confess the reasons for his desertion, her heart breaks all over again, especially after the night they just shared.
ON HIS KNEES took me on an emotional ride. Highly intense, infinitely provocative, and extremely eye opening, I read it cover to cover in one sitting. I found Renny's character exceptionally realistic, and she could have been any woman who has gone through the trauma of losing the man she loved without knowing why. I found her grief poignant, and her sadness quickly became mine. As for Nicholas? Admittedly, I hated him at first. I truly wanted Renny to keep him tied up the entire book; that is, until I heard his side of the story and realized that he was not entirely to blame. When that happened, I wanted to untie him myself.
ON HIS KNEES by Beth Williamson, shows her versatility as an author to the nth power. I first began to read Ms. Williamson as a writer of western historical romances, and with each release I stand in awe at her ability to make me feel, want, and need with each of her characters. I can't wait to see what she releases next!
