When I was in my 20s at the gym, I always admired the way some of the older guys had maintained their physiques and had made that my long term goal. Needless to say, like most young gym rats, lifestyles change and you just don't take care of yourself like you should. As the years go on you make an attempt every few (or more) years as you think of those "old guys".
Being 56 years old now, it's time to get to work.I got some equipment for home, renewed my gym membership and got to work.
I came across this book and read it. The things I got most out of it was that it doesn't matter how old you are. He deals with the aches and pains and let's you know that you can have realistic, achievable expectations that you might not think you can have.
I have prior knowledge of strength training, but even if you don't have any previous training you will still greatly appreciate and utilize what he has to say.
The first few pages, you think the book is directed to men only, but he also talks specifically to women also, and the book relates to both genders almost equally. Strength training is one of the most important things a woman can do to stave off osteoporosis.
I didn't think my wife would be interested in it, but she read it completely and enjoyed it.
You don't have to be a lump. To me it was a great mental boost and I am noticing greater results than I had expected at my age, so far.
Read the book. Geez! It's only [...] bucks!
