I have used this book regularly to help my students understand what they need to do to safely prepare for pointe work. I find it a great resource and highly recommend it to students and teachers. It taught me a lot about preparing students for pointe work and how to help them prepare safely and be strong enough to find pointe work enjoyable.

15 Minute Better Back Workout (+DVD) Review

15 Minute Better Back Workout (+DVD)

I was a bit overwhelmed at first thinking I had to review and figure out every single exercise before starting so I just stuck the DVD in. Most exercises were easy to follow with the model and the ones that were a bit tricky I just looked up in the book.
As I'm recovering from a back injury I'm taking it slow and can only do 1 or 2 of the sessions at a time, but I can see doing all in the future for a nice workout. The moves are only repeated a few times so if one is particularly difficult you know it won't last forever!

I'm finally through with doing large numbers of crunches in an effort
to improve my abs - slower is better, and changing things up is the
key. You can use this book to suit your needs: you can put the DVD in
and go to work immediately to get one of four abs workouts, including
a short warmup session, in the advertised 15 minutes. If you want to
dig a little deeper you can use the book to learn about the specific
muscles, read the FAQs, and get a fold-out overview of the sequence of
exercises for each workout. If you're uncertain of the correct
procedures, you can also get a clear, detailed explanation of each
exercise and it's purpose. I like to rotate the workouts on a daily or
weekly basis, so my abs are constantly challenged.

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Yoga Illustrated, Third Edition Review

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Yoga Illustrated, Third Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I read the Complete Idiot's Guide to Yoga over a year ago. I have found myself practicing yoga faithfully and referring to the book ever since. The book gives a wonderful overview of this centuries old practice. I particularly liked the book for the authors' humor and openmindedness. As can be found in their other book, Complete Idiot's Guide to Meditation. All the information needed to start practicing yoga today is provided without making the reader feel as though they must change religions or make other drastic changes in their lives. Facts and ideas are presented in such a way that the reader can take as little or as much from the book as he wants.
I found the explainations of postures, breathing exercises and other yoga aspects to be clear and detailed (enough for a beginner). I was particularly impressed with the instructions for the postures as modifications are included. A lot of books don't do that. The book is truly an introduction to yoga - there is so much more to be learned. In fact, it has lead me to read many other wonderful books about yoga. As well as research yoga on web sites listed in the book (including Joan Budilovsky's site - wonderful, & you actually get answers to your letters).
The CIGY offers an EXCELLENT place to begin. I have recommended this book to several friends who have asked me about my yoga practice. I would recommend it again and again.

Ashtanga Yoga: The Definitive Step-by-Step Guide to Dynamic Yoga Review

Ashtanga Yoga: The Definitive Step-by-Step Guide to Dynamic Yoga
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I disagree very much with the 1-star pan of "reader from Los Angeles". I am a beginner. I have both John Scott's book and David Swenson's. Both are wonderful but different. While doing (or trying to do!) ashtanga, I usually have BOTH books open in front of me. Yes, Swenson's has spiral binding and therefore stays flat easier, but the binding on Scott's book was no match for me and easily cracked, allowing it to lie flat on the floor, too. The main reason I have Scott's book open is because for each asana, he illustrates each step to reach it. E.g., the very first asana has about 8 "steps", each requiring an inhale or exhale. All 8 are shown on the same two facing pages, so I can see each. Swenson's book does not have this. However, Swenson's book shows not only the ultimate pose, but also two or three variations for the "asana-challenged." Scott's book does not illustrate any variations, so this is a big plus for the Swenson book. Both are excellent for differing reasons. Make it a two-fer:) Namaste.

15 Minute Total Body Workout (+DVD) Review

15 Minute Total Body Workout (+DVD)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

This book is perfect, exactly what I've been looking for, and the best thing is the DVD. It's incredible! It's so easy to follow, and so quick - I'm done in 15 minutes and on to the rest of my day. There's no stress on me to take 15 minutes a day to spend on my body. I can easily spend this much time experimenting with a new lipstick color. Everybody can find 15 minutes to exercise!

There are 4 different workouts and the variety keeps things interesting. The format is the same for each one: You warm up for 3 minutes, do 10 minutes of a really good routine - strength training plus heart-pumping intervals - and then cool down for 2 minutes with full-body stretches that remind me of Yoga. You can do it at home with just one set of dumb bells or a fitness ball.

And it's not just for women. My husband could do this - and should do it! He thinks that if you can't spend 4 hours working out it's not worth it; but that's overwhelming, so he doesn't do anything. The 15 minute workout is a good way to get started and be consistent. You can always add on and do more...

Fit and Fabulous in 15 Minutes Review

Fit and Fabulous in 15 Minutes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have never written a review before but have felt it was the least I could do for what I have received from this program. I purchased this book on impluse, and at the time was committed to doing my free weights routine from Joyce Vedral's book (one of her many). I was about 3 mths into the Joyce Vedral program and was beginning to see some improvement (which is about the time period her bk tells you to expect). Not needing to try yet another routine I found myself buying the T-Tapp book. After reading it over the weekend I was truly inspired by all of the wonderful testimonies, before and after pictures and the stated benefits (beyond body shaping) that the book covers. I started the routine and was able to accomplish the first fifteen min routine on my own but was really left wondering if I was missing something in my form so I redeemed my coupon and bot the DVD for the Total Workout (which with the 30% off and the free DVD in the back it is a good deal I think). Let me tell you, I am SO impressed with the results. I fortunately don't have pounds to loose just shaping up. Ever since I had my son at age 21 I started a pilgramage of what workout routine would finally get me back into shape. I also thought in the back of my mind that one day before I was old I would like to exprience what it would be like to be fit again. I have done yoga (Bikram), pilates, gym with weights, free weights at home, callanetics, lotte burk etc. etc. The thing that most impresses me about this program is that the results are so fast. A couple of weeks in and I was really seeing toning, flatter stomach and most importantly losing back fat! I kept asking my personal trainer (during the gym work out days) how to lose that and she said more cardio, but I never could make it budge and now four weeks into this program it has significantly reduced. I can't wait to see the continued improvement. I have every faith now that my idle fantasy of having a fit figure again is on it's way (and some my argue is already here). And one last thing for all the moms out there nothing, and I mean nothing, has come close to the speed with which my tummy has reduced and is on it's way to being flat. I just had to share because this is a fitness program that has this 40 year old feeling excited and not afraid of celebrating my future birthdays. I have every expectation that I will be looking great (and feeling great as well).
