After studying "westernized" Muay Thai for a number of years, I became interested in the more historical aspects of boxing styles practiced in various manners throughout Southeast Asia. I was certainly not disappointed with this book. Burmese boxing contains many of the same techniques as traditional Muay Thai, but also has headbutts, throws, spinning backfists, double flying knee strikes, and a variety of other techniques. The book contains information on the history of Burmese boxing, rules of the sport, and excellent illustrations of basic and highly advanced striking, defense, throwing, and neck wrestling techniques. There is a lot of information packed into this book. My only complaint is that the techniques could use a little more explanation. Anyone with experience in a striking art would have no problem picking up on these techniques, though. Overall, an excellent book.
