This book exemplifies the problem I've had with Ellen Barrett. While she has great, even brilliant ideas, she sometimes seems to fall short on the execution (or at least she used to- this book is a few years old now).
The book is broken into three parts- a yoga sequence for an individual who wants to open their "most sexual" chakras (first, second and fourth), a partner yoga sequence, and a very abridged version of the Kama Sutra sexual positions. Really cool to have- sort of. First of all, the partner yoga sequence and the Kama Sutra section use the same postures/positions- one with clothing, the other without. While I think some repetition can be erotic- a tease, if you will, of things to come- a complete repetition falls short because quite a few of the postures require both strength and flexibility that most people are not going to have right out of the gate. Further, while a few of the partner positions offer some ideas for modifications, most of them do not. In practice, that means it's just not going to be useful for the majority of people.
My gripe with the first section is that while it's organized by chakra, I'm not sure the postures she's put into each section are actually doing what they're supposed to do. For example, while I can see that Camel, Bridge and Wheel would help to open your fourth/heart chakra, I'm not sure of the same can be said for Plow or Seated Angle. Maybe this goes to the heart of what gets me- she says she's going to do something one way, but then it feels like she threw something in there willy-nilly.
I like some of the sequences and I like some of the partner postures/positions; I just feel like there should have been more.

First revealed over 2,000 years ago in the Kama Sutra, the link between yoga and sex has been generally recognized but widely ignored - until now. In Sexy Yoga, Ellen Barrett, popular author and instructor for New York's Crunch studios, offers the modern yoga student a specific program designed to transform and heighten sexual pleasure and lovemaking.Barrett's program includes a series of asanas (postures) that use yoga's combination of movement, breathing, and focus to release sexual power. Sensual, erotic, and guaranteed to improve sexual performance, the poses are also designed to improve one's ability to navigate both the physical and emotional demands of intimacy. Rooted in the rich tradition of yoga but far from an esoteric Indian practice, the program in this book is suitable for everyone from new students to experienced yoga practitioners.
