(More customer reviews)This little book is a great adjunct to Canadian director Guy Maddin's recent movie of the same title. It contains the screenplay of this silent movie, a selection of stills, and a truly hilarious interview with Maddin ("Chicken Soup for the Stone Baby"). In this interview, he claims that his delirious tale of lust, intrigue, murder and hand transplants among the hockey players and demimonde of Winnipeg in the 1930s, set mostly in a hockey arena, its locker room, and a combination beauty parlor/abortion clinic, is highly autobiographical. Both the screenplay and inerview make clear how confused and fused "reality" and "movie" are, some aspects of which aren't clear when first seeing the film. This book (cleverly designed to resemble a battered, old paperback) would be the perfect companion for the recently-released DVD of "Cowards Bend the Knee". Highly recommended!
