Being into my 7th month of recovery from bilateral knee replacement I found this book ridiculous and extremely negative - not at all encouraging. The information comes across as official and usual, but every patient is different. My experience, which I thought out thorougly before making a decison, has been excellent - if I have to do this again, I will. It is a challenging recovery and there is pain, but there are so many good meds out there to help with pain managemnt these days - and it is a pain that is going to come to an end. I stood the morning after my surgery, walked 4 days later, did stairs 10 days out from the surgery and returned to my desk job 60 days later. Recovery is hard work - daily work for a long time. Today I rode my exercise bike for 30 minutes! I have been on my feet nonstop for over 2 hours at a time. I feel better than I have in years. Am I pain free ?- not yet. It takes the muscles, tendons , and ligaments a long time to forgive their trauma. But talk with your doctors, talk with rehab people - ask all the questions before hand - but you can get well. Bilateral knee replacement does not have to be the worst experience of your life!

This is my personal story of my bilateral total knee replacement. I wrotethis book for two reasons. The first reason is to inform people about whatthey can expect from bilateral knee replacement surgery as opposed tosurgery on one knee at a time. But moreimportantly, the second reason for this book is to provide as muchinformation as possible to anyone contemplating this type of surgery beforethey go forward with it.The anxieties you have before major surgery are so different than the onesyou have after surgery. Often, people think that once the surgery is over, the worries and pain are over. Instead, it can be the beginning of adifferent set of worries and pain. But, if you know in advance what toexpect, you can plan accordingly and will have a much easier time after youroperation. There are many books out there with regard to one total knee replacement, but very little about a bilateral-meaning two-knee replacement. I wantto tell you all the facts that could occur, and in my case, did occur, before a very large decision such as this one is made.
